Cream Residential celebrates 24 years in the industry

What is abundantly clear when chatting to Principal Chris Wilson of Cream Residential is his commitment to his clients and business.

“We are a really quality brand that offers caring marketing services to our clients. We really care about our clients and the outcomes they achieve.”

This attitude is a key reason why Cream Residential is celebrating 24 years in the Canberra real estate industry.

Cream Residential's success started in 1997, when Mr Wilson teamed up with his father to run Cameron Real Estate. 16 years later, Mr Wilson decided to re-brand the agency to what it is today.

“I decided that the company needed to be refreshed and re-energised,” Mr Wilson said.

“We decided on Cream Residential because cream rises to the top and we thought it was a bit different and people would pay attention to it.”

And Mr Wilson's eye for uniqueness is certainly paying off. To date, Mr Wilson has sold over 1192 homes and currently has 400 properties under management in the Canberra region.

Cream Residential specialises in Canberra’s South, particularly in Hughes, Garran, and Curtin. Their recent sales are certainly impressive – a three-bedroom house at 1 Maygar Street in Hughes sold just last month for $1.23 million. A few months earlier in April, another three-bedroom house at 28 Millen Street in Hughes sold for $1.36 million, and a five-bedroom house at 95 Fitchett Street in Garran sold prior to auction in March for $1.588 million.

Mr Wilson was born and raised in Canberra and prides himself on his ability to prepare specialised marketing exposure and high-level customer service.

“I love the stages of the sale. I love getting the opportunity to meet your client, discuss selling their home, the process of getting it on the market, the auction and the settlement process” Mr Wilson said.

“Each stage is a just a real buzz for me and I get a real kick out of it.”

While Mr Wilson has certainly had his fair share of memorable sales given his decades of experience in the property industry, it was two recent sales that have stuck with him the most.

“Recently I had an auction that lasted 55 minutes long.”

“Auctions usually last between 10 to 15 minutes but this one was particularly memorable for the client who was selling her family home and it really was one of the longest auctions I have ever conducted.”

Mr Wilson said another memorable sale was a property he sold that was on the market only 13 months prior with his sale price exceeding $400,000 over original expectations.

“That’s more of a reflection of the market and once again giving clients advice to hold off on the time frame."

Mr Wilson’s advice for those wanting to enter the property industry or start their own agency is simple.

“You have to be persistent at what you do. You have to apply yourself, care and listen”.

Another key takeaway from Mr Wilson’s success is to have a supportive team that shares the same passion of property.

“Without the team around me I couldn’t have done it. We are all working in the same direction and with common goals.”

This advice is being instilled in Mr Wilson’s own children, whom he hopes will continue Cream Residential’s successful legacy within the industry for the next 24 years.

“I would like to see growth within the team going forward and property management numbers,” Mr Wilson said.

“In the next 24 years I would like to see Cream Residential as a thriving, prosperous business that has had plenty of growth.”
