The owners of this Spanish Mission style home in Campbell moved in in the early 1960s and never moved out. Until now.

The cosy two-bedroom, two-bathroom cottage, located at 48 Waller Crescent, is for sale for the very first time. Built in 1962, the home “combines the beauty of Spanish Mission with the elegance of whitewashed Scandinavian style” according to its listing.

Its 1960s design features are in immaculate condition; a tribute to how loved and cared for the home has been for more than six decades. Standing in the living room – with views to the dining room, kitchen and family room – is like standing in a time capsule.

“It’s heartbreakingly original,” says sales agent Holly Komorowski of home.byholly

“There’s so much joy in the detail and the authentic materials – timber archways and joinery, exposed timber beams, a roughly hewn stone fireplace.

“It’s a privilege to sell a property like this one.”

Spanish Mission style homes of 1950s and 1960s Australia were inspired by the red terracotta tiles and curved stucco arches of traditional Spanish homes. These elements were seen as “luxurious” by the nation’s middle class.

The exterior 48 Waller Crescent features a peaked terracotta roof, rough trowelled walls, a pattern of black inset stone and decorative wrought iron. Exposed beams decorate the eaves and large muntin windows and doors populate the walls.

The enclosed front courtyard captures the northern sun and then there’s the front door, with its artful wrought iron window grill and elaborate hinging.

Inside is pure Scandinavian design influence; think texture, wood and neutral colours.

“It’s so hard to choose a favourite feature but I love the rumpus room,” Holly says.

“It’s huge and has doors that open onto the patio.

“The patio itself is also divine: picture a late afternoon gin and tonic as the sun sets and the kids have their last swims of the day in the pool below.”

The master bedroom features a wall of robes, an inset dresser, and an ensuite bathroom finished in soft greys. Muntin timber doors open from the master to the front courtyard.

The second bedroom spills out to the rear garden and swimming pool.

And then there’s the sauna.

“The features of the property are so beautiful, it’s pretty easy to see why the owners have loved living here,” Holly says.

“I’m hoping we can find a buyer who just adores its character and will take loving care of it for the next six decades and beyond.”

Number 48 Waller Crescent, Campbell, goes to auction at 2pm on Saturday 10 August 2024.
