‘Like a dollhouse’: the magical Queanbeyan listing that’s shocking even its neighbours

The front door is the only giveaway.

It’s fairy floss pink against an otherwise completely monochrome exterior. Which is why, when you walk in the front door at 2 Kinkora Place, Queanbeyan, it’s a little breathtaking. Like walking into the pages of your favourite childhood book, without knowing you were about to land there.

The five-bedroom, two-bathroom house is split into ‘multigenerational living’ with a fully self contained apartment upstairs and another one downstairs.

In the ground floor apartment, there’s a shade of pink on almost every wall. From the kitchen to the lounge room to the laundry. Every detail has been considered: retro gold curtain sweeps, matte black fixtures and vintage chandeliers.

It’s a romantic world that was lovingly created by the vendor Jill’s daughter, Jo, who was a true creative and designed the pastel rainbow colour palette for her apartment. She was obsessed with vintage furniture.

Sadly, Jo died of breast cancer around 12 months ago, and now Jill is ready to pass the truly special property on to new custodians.

Sales agent Bianca Way from Home.by Holly says the ground floor apartment is perfect for a creative who runs their own business and wants to live every day in a state of inspiration.

“The vibe is undeniable, there is only joy in this space,” Bianca says.

“Queanbeyan is full of creatives and artisans, so the possibilities of this home will be the real appeal.

“I think ultimately it will appeal to a creative buyer, someone who could even use the massive garage as an art studio.

“Someone who makes a statement and isn’t afraid to take risks.”

Set on a 847 square metre block, what is now a five bedroom home was a complex containing three separate units when Jill bought it back in 2019. Walls came down, bathrooms were beautifully resurrected and modern kitchens and laundries were installed, all in a matter of months.

Which may be why almost the entire city of Queanbeyan - not least of which the home’s neighbours on Kinkora Place - are in shock.

The property has had a ‘phenomenal’ response on social media, according to Bianca, with one Facebook user commenting ‘I had no idea this was even on my street!’

“I first saw the home on FaceTime during lockdown and knew it was special,” Bianca says.

“People are just walking in the front door and getting lost in the property.”

And if you’re a potential buyer who’s more of a minimalist?

“The key thing to look at here is that the fixtures and fittings of the home are so stunning,” Bianca says.

“The pink is elegant and understated, so if a lot of pink isn’t for you, a lick of paint on the walls would tone it down just enough to let you appreciate all the pink goodness on a slightly smaller scale.”

The home at 2 Kinkora Place, Queanbeyan, will be auctioned at 9am on Saturday 4 December 2021. View the Zango exclusive listing here.
