Meet a Zango agent: Nicky Symon, Ray White Canberra

Nicky Symon knows more than most the stressors that come with moving house, having lived in over 20 houses throughout her life. Her father was in the military and the family often moved around for his job.

Now as a sales agent for Ray White Canberra, Nicky goes to great lengths to make the process of buying and selling property as smooth and stress-free as possible for her clients.

“I have moved around frequently—I practically grew up in a suitcase—and I’ve lived in many different places. So I have a real empathy for families moving house,” she says.

“I know how stressful a process it can be, so I’m always mindful of anything I can do to alleviate some of that stress while always striving for the best possible result.”

It was by chance that Nicky ended up working in real estate, when an agent friend suggested she start helping her out on weekends. Nicky has now worked in the industry for over 17 years, and has become the go-to agent in the tightly held suburbs of Garran and Hughes.

“I’ve lived in both suburbs, and I have a soft spot for both Garran and Hughes,” says Nicky.

“It’s a great place for families, with very good schools, and also ideal for experiencing nature with Red Hill as a backdrop. I also love the local community and its proximity to Lake Burley Griffin and the inner south.”

Outside of work Nicky is very close to her family - her daughter has even followed Nicky into real estate and works with her at Ray White Canberra. It’s the personal connections she values most working in real estate, and her track record of providing her clients with a truly personalised experience is what makes Nicky most proud.

“I feel that I’m a good listener and therefore have an understanding of what people’s needs and wants are and can help them find what they want or to achieve the desired results with a minimum of fuss,” she says.

“For me, it’s all about the relationships and human connections.”

Favourite thing about working in real estate?

Getting out and about, meeting people and for many, being a part of one of the most important decisions of their life.

Three home must-haves?

I love to see natural light streaming into a home, a clever use of space, and a thoughtfully landscaped garden.

Most memorable sale?

My most memorable sale was the sale of a family home in the heights of Chapman. The eventual buyer of the home lived in Queensland at the time but his parents were actually the original owners of the home and he had grown up there. After his parents passed, the home was sold, and then sold again, until he bought it back! He said he had loved living there so much and he wanted to give his children the opportunity to grow up there as well. It was a lovely story.
