The suburb’s mix of houses and townhouses are in high demand, particularly with older couples and families, thanks to their mix of affordability and location. There are three schools within the suburb, and residents get to enjoy well-maintained sporting ovals and facilities, plus easy access to major arterial roads and public transport. Just 10 kilometres from the city centre, Page is a quiet, leafy suburb that scores well on both convenience and affordability. Just 15 minutes from the city with a lower than average (though steadily rising) median house price, Scullin is an increasingly sought-after suburb for Canberra families and individuals. The Scullin Shops have been reinvigorated and are home to a yoga studio, eateries, and other retailers including one of Canberra’s most loved ‘Another Chance’ Op Shops. Belconnen Westfield and Hawker Shops are also just a short drive away. Avid readers will love the suburb’s many street libraries, where you can browse, borrow and donate books.

The beautiful Palmerville Heritage Park is nearby, which is a great spot for a walk. Looking for a rural lifestyle that’s still not too far away from town? Check out Burra, which sits south of Queanbeyan on the way to the Snowy Mountains. One of Canberra’s northernmost suburbs, Ngunnawal is a spacious, quiet area that’s popular with professionals and families. Kids are well looked after thanks to great schools nearby and plenty of open spaces and playgrounds to run around. The Ngunnawal Shopping Centre has you covered for the basics, or its a quick drive to the shops, cafes, restaurants and bars in Gungahlin or Belconnen. Even the city is only 12 kilometres away.

A quieter part of Gungahlin, the suburb of Palmerston is bounded by nature reserves on three sides. With a mix of young families and retirees, you’ll find larger blocks and wider roads than some of the area’s newer suburbs. In the middle of its mix of houses and townhouses is a small local shops with all the basics and a medical centre, or it’s just a short drive to everything you could need at the Gungahlin Town Centre.

Palmerston

Tucked just inside the ACT/New South Wales border on Canberra’s most northern tip, Taylor is one of Canberra’s newest suburbs. Its first residents have already moved in and made the area home, living in a mix of brand new houses and townhouses, and the suburb continues to expand. Taylor already has its own primary school, and the Taylor Adventure Playground is there to keep the kids entertained. There are plans to build a local shopping centre, but until then, there are plenty of facilities in the neighbouring suburbs and it’s only four kilometres into the lively Gungahlin Town Centre and light rail network.

Only 15 minutes from the city, Throsby has a peaceful suburban vibe and plenty of wide, open spaces. Life here means being close to everything you need, but feels like a private sanctuary kitted out with excellent parks and amenities. Tucked away between two woodland nature reserves, you can expect to have birds, wallabies, and even bettongs as neighbours. This newer suburb is still growing, with local shops yet to come, but it’s only a short drive to Gungahlin Town Centre. The area is also well-serviced by schools in the neighbouring suburbs.
