Hidden in a leafy pocket at the foot of Black Mountain, living here means you can enjoy all the luxuries of urban living but feel like you’re miles away from anything. The once-derelict Aranda shops are now a bustling community with a coffee roastery, cafe, bar and a boutique gift shop, or it’s not far to the Jamison Shopping Centre at Macquarie. Greater Queanbeyan

Looking for a rural lifestyle that’s still not too far away from town? Check out Burra, which sits south of Queanbeyan on the way to the Snowy Mountains. Harrison, located just 10 kilometres north of the city, is an in-demand suburb, particularly for families wanting to live close to schools, playgrounds, the light rail network and local amenities. Just pop across Flemington Road for the Franklin shops, or five minutes up the road is the busy Gungahlin town centre. Only 15 minutes from the city, Throsby has a peaceful suburban vibe and plenty of wide, open spaces. Life here means being close to everything you need, but feels like a private sanctuary kitted out with excellent parks and amenities. Tucked away between two woodland nature reserves, you can expect to have birds, wallabies, and even bettongs as neighbours. This newer suburb is still growing, with local shops yet to come, but it’s only a short drive to Gungahlin Town Centre. The area is also well-serviced by schools in the neighbouring suburbs.
