It’s one of the closest suburbs to the CBD but you could easily not know Aranda exists. Hidden in a leafy pocket at the foot of Black Mountain, living here means you can enjoy all the luxuries of urban living but feel like you’re miles away from anything. The once-derelict Aranda shops are now a bustling community with a coffee roastery, cafe, bar and a boutique gift shop, or it’s not far to the Jamison Shopping Centre at Macquarie. There are three schools within the suburb, and residents get to enjoy well-maintained sporting ovals and facilities, plus easy access to major arterial roads and public transport. Just 15 minutes from the city with a lower than average (though steadily rising) median house price, Scullin is an increasingly sought-after suburb for Canberra families and individuals. The Scullin Shops have been reinvigorated and are home to a yoga studio, eateries, and other retailers including one of Canberra’s most loved ‘Another Chance’ Op Shops. Looking for a rural lifestyle that’s still not too far away from town? Check out Burra, which sits south of Queanbeyan on the way to the Snowy Mountains. While it sits only six kilometres from the city, you’ll feel like you’re miles away thanks to plenty of mature trees and wide open spaces.
