Tucked right in the middle of Belconnen is Melba, a quiet, leafy suburb with a strong sense of community. The suburb’s mix of houses and townhouses are in high demand, particularly with older couples and families, thanks to their mix of affordability and location. There are three schools within the suburb, and residents get to enjoy well-maintained sporting ovals and facilities, plus easy access to major arterial roads and public transport. Just 10 kilometres from the city centre, Page is a quiet, leafy suburb that scores well on both convenience and affordability. The local shops may be small but there’s plenty there, including a beauty salon, hairdresser, a couple of eateries, and Page Bottler, which is worth a visit even if you don’t live nearby, for their range of craft beers, local and boutique wines and small-batch spirits. Just 15 minutes from the city with a lower than average (though steadily rising) median house price, Scullin is an increasingly sought-after suburb for Canberra families and individuals. The Scullin Shops have been reinvigorated and are home to a yoga studio, eateries, and other retailers including one of Canberra’s most loved ‘Another Chance’ Op Shops. Belconnen Westfield and Hawker Shops are also just a short drive away. Avid readers will love the suburb’s many street libraries, where you can browse, borrow and donate books.

Sitting on the northern edge of Belconnen is Spence, a quiet suburb with plenty of open, leafy spaces. The beautiful Palmerville Heritage Park is nearby, which is a great spot for a walk. Greater Queanbeyan

Looking for a rural lifestyle that’s still not too far away from town? Check out Burra, which sits south of Queanbeyan on the way to the Snowy Mountains.
