It’s one of the closest suburbs to the CBD but you could easily not know Aranda exists. Hidden in a leafy pocket at the foot of Black Mountain, living here means you can enjoy all the luxuries of urban living but feel like you’re miles away from anything. The once-derelict Aranda shops are now a bustling community with a coffee roastery, cafe, bar and a boutique gift shop, or it’s not far to the Jamison Shopping Centre at Macquarie. Just 15 minutes from the city with a lower than average (though steadily rising) median house price, Scullin is an increasingly sought-after suburb for Canberra families and individuals. Harrison, located just 10 kilometres north of the city, is an in-demand suburb, particularly for families wanting to live close to schools, playgrounds, the light rail network and local amenities. Just pop across Flemington Road for the Franklin shops, or five minutes up the road is the busy Gungahlin town centre. Taylor already has its own primary school, and the Taylor Adventure Playground is there to keep the kids entertained. There are plans to build a local shopping centre, but until then, there are plenty of facilities in the neighbouring suburbs and it’s only four kilometres into the lively Gungahlin Town Centre and light rail network.

The Watson Shops are a foodie’s delight, with delicious Filipino restaurant Lolo and Lola, and very popular cafe, The Knox Made in Watson, while the main shopping and dining hub of Dickson is a short drive away. It’s also a quick trip across Northbourne Avenue to the Capital Region Farmers Market every Saturday morning. Inhabited by students, families and retirees, Watson was once primarily houses but more townhouses and apartments have been added over the years.
