'Twin' townhouses in Ainslie perfect for a big family or very close best friends

Don’t let the ‘twin’ in twin townhouses fool you: the impressive homes at 10A and 10B Hoddle Gardens, Ainslie, have “distinctly different” styles.

Designed by Gina Carmody and built by Gumley Building, home.byholly real estate agent Holly Komorowski explains two unique personalities lie beneath their striking facade.

“Quite often when you see townhouses built, they mirror each other," Holly says.

"These ones are distinctly different, but also sit beautifully together in the landscape.

“Both have different features that people find lovely and attractive. One’s a bit darker and moodier (10B), while the other one’s lighter (10A), but they complement each other really well.”

The two townhouses are currently owned by a multi-generational family, with a couple and their two young children living in the three-bedroom 10A, while their parents downsized next door to the two-bedroom 10B.

Notably, 10B is designed to accommodate ageing, with accessible design featuring a glass lift, wide doorways, grab rails and a ramp to the master bedroom.

The hub of both homes is an expansive open-plan kitchen, dining and living area positioned on the upper level of the townhouses to capture the northern sun and scenic parkland views.

Behind each kitchen, complete with modern island benches, luxe appliances and soft-touch cabinetry, are studies with views to Mount Ainslie: perfect for working from home.

Both homes are filled with northerly light courtesy of vaulted windows, and both balconies overlook the olive, maple and vintage plum trees of the park at the centre of Hoddle Gardens. The park is the centrepiece of the circular loop street, which was part of Walter Burley Griffin’s original garden city design.

“I really appreciate that view out to the park and being able to connect with it, but both of the townhouses also have lovely gardens, which are really well established and thought out," Holly says.

"They use a lot of greenery inside as well."

The garden in 10A includes a Japanese-style courtyard with river pebbles and a fire pit adjacent to the paved alfresco dining area, mature magnolias, and lush lawns and downstairs rumpus.

Next door, 10B features a downstairs rumpus and alfresco dining area, but the flagship feature is a heated in-ground pool, separated from a romantic master wing by a wall of glass.

Behind a secret door in the master suite’s feature wall panelling are a custom walk-in-robe with teak cabinetry and a large ensuite with a walk-in rain shower.

“It’s a really secluded and tranquil space. It’s lovely the way it connects with the garden and out to the swimming pool,” Holly says.

The second bedroom in 10B, complete with a built-in robe, is privately positioned at the opposite end of the ground floor, close to the main bathroom.

Meanwhile, 10A’s three bedrooms are also on the ground floor, with the master bedroom privately positioned on the opposite end to the other bedrooms and family bathroom.

The master suite features custom walnut cabinetry, a built-in window seat framing Japanese maples and an ensuite with a Tasmanian oak vanity, freestanding tub and walk-in rain shower.

What’s more, the homes are on a quiet street within walking distance of Ainslie shops and only a stone’s throw from Canberra’s top schools, the Civic CBD and Mount Ainslie Reserve.

“It’s a suburb that can really suit a broad demographic," Holly says.

"You could be downsizing and wanting an inner city lifestyle with the convenience of being able to walk everywhere.

“Or if you’ve got a young family, there’s lots of schools and a beautiful park across the road where you can kick the football and ride bikes in a safe setting.”

The homes at 10A and 10B Hoddle Gardens in Ainslie will go to auction at 10am on Saturday 12 August.
