Record breaking agent named new Director of Luton Tuggeranong

Real estate agent Michael Martin has just been named the new Director of Luton in Tuggeranong.

The appointment comes off the back of an impressive tenure at the agency, and several record breaking sales including one earlier this year in Gordon.

Michael, who grew up in Tuggeranong, says the transition into directorship is something he has been working towards his entire career.

“My first job out of school was actually an electrical apprenticeship. But while I enjoyed the theory, I wasn’t too keen on the environment and knew I needed to be in a role where I could work closely with people, which is where I excel the most.

“I liked that real estate provided the opportunity to do that, without being stuck behind a desk all day. So when I got my start at LJ Hooker in Tuggeranong, I didn’t look back – and that was 7 years ago now.”

After Luton Tuggeranong bought out LJ Hooker in Tuggeranong in 2015, Michael says the mentoring and support he received to grow his career was second to none.

“I had some great mentors at LJ Hooker; some who have since retired and moved interstate. But the amount of opportunity that Luton gives to its staff is exceptional. I’ve always been told the ‘O’ in Luton stands for opportunity, and they certainly back that up. I think it’s hard to find that in life – employers who make grand promises but actually follow through. That’s what Luton has done for me, and for my colleagues.”

Of his new role as director alongside Luton’s founder, Richard Luton, Michael says it really is a dream come true.

“One of my major goals in life was to become a director before I was 30, which I’ve done [he turns 30 later this year]. Over my career I’ve seen great directors, and I’ve seen average directors – so I knew exactly how I wanted to be and how I wanted my team to be for us to be the best office in Tuggeranong.

“My goal now is to be the most highly regarded office in Canberra, and I know how to get there. It just takes time, which I have on my side.”

Michael attributes his vision and passion for the job, as well as an exceptional team behind him, to his success and is looking forward to breaking more suburb records.

“Under new leadership, we have a very high standard when it comes to sales and property management at Luton Tuggeranong, and even though my title has changed my day to day is still very much the same.

“I’m extremely passionate about the south side, and recently bought my first house in the Lanyon Valley. The market has grown exponentially, but it’s not a surprise – the properties and houses are larger and more affordable compared with other parts of Canberra, and we have great amenities and beautiful views.

“I see a lot more record prices in the near future, as Tuggeranong certainly hasn’t hit its peak yet. This also means I get to see people who sell here be able to reach their life goals because they can afford it with recent sales prices – be it moving interstate or getting that holiday house on the coast.

“Helping people achieve their goals is something I love most about real estate, and I’m very excited to be able to do that in the capacity of a director. We have big plans for the Tuggeranong office, and a very dynamic team who I am excited to share this journey with and help achieve their personal career goals.

“They say that if you have a vision, you need to start with the end in mind. At the end of my career, I want to be remembered as a leader and a director who helped many agents well exceed their career and personal goals. My goal is to give back with the support I was given when I started.”
