Here’s how to secure low-maintenance, affordable living in Ginninderry

The term affordable housing can seem like an oxymoron at times, particularly with Canberra’s property market going from strength to strength. But there still are affordable opportunities to enter the housing market, like the Flexi-living Homes in new suburb Strathnairn.

Strathnairn is the first suburb in the emerging Ginninderry region in Canberra’s north-west, and the whole region is designed with innovation and sustainability in mind.

Part of this is their innovative Flexi-living Series, providing low-maintenance and affordable living for first-home buyers and downsizers alike. The properties sit somewhere between an apartment and a traditional, free-standing house, and there are a range of architect-designed floor plans available, that each deliver low maintenance, affordable living, with all the freedom of a separately titled home.

The homes are offered for sale to eligible people via ballot, with registrations now open for a further 37 Flexi-living Homes.

Ginninderry Project Director Stephen Harding says providing a diverse range of innovative housing options and adopting best practice design principles is central to the project's vision.

“Our goal is to offer a mix of innovative housing types that will facilitate a broad range of lifestyles for individuals and families. People from all ages and stages of life, and with different budgets and lifestyle aspirations are accommodated at Ginninderry, making for a vibrant community", he says.

"This release includes 37 homes with a choice of 11 designs across one, two and three-bedroom options including some new adaptable designs."

The interlocking, individually titled homes share garaging between street and lane frontages, and feature reduced maintenance and operation costs, plus thoughtful designs that maximise internal and external space. They’re designed for those looking to enter or re-enter the housing market.

"Flexi-Living Homes are designed to open the door to home ownership, so a range of eligibility criteria applies," says Stephen.

Prices start from $323,900, with ballot registrations closing on Friday, 22 October. Click here to view the eligibility criteria, or to register for the ballot.
