Famous Bush Butchery On The Market For First Time In 28 Years

The popular site of one of Canberra region’s most famous butcher shops is heading to auction next month with a $350,000-$400,000 price guide.

The country butchery at 29 Fitzroy Street in Binalong has become a household name with people travelling far and wide to get a taste of some local produce.

But after 28 years of running the butchery, the current bush butchers, Mitch and Lillian del Santo, have decided to hang up their gloves and start the next chapter of their life. The property is currently listed with Ray White Rural Canberra – Yass’ George Southwell.

“They are just beautiful people and have done an excellent job running the business,” said Mr Southwell.

“They are now in a position where they need to retire and move on”.

On a large 620.9sqm, the charming butchery is a small red brick shop and an exact replica of the original butcher shop that burnt down in 1981.

As inviting as ever from the outside, inside the butchery is separated into six working areas: the reception, preparation area, two cool rooms, a sausage preparation room, and a private office area.

Mr Southwell said there is potential to build a residence to the rear of the property.

Since coming onto the market, the Binalong butchery has been hugely popular due amongst Canberra locals who are looking for a new commercial opportunity.

“There isn’t a need to continue it as a butcher…it could be converted into another business,” said Mr Southwell.

“This is a huge opportunity for a young butcher or someone just looking for a change of pace."

Binalong is just over an hour away from Canberra and according to the latest Zango Data, has a current median sale price of $340,000. And talk about a close-knit community – the population is approximately at 543 people.

“Someone now has the opportunity to buy somewhere close to Canberra and do their bit in a regional town,” said Mr Southwell.
