Sitting in the peaceful and historic township of Binalong, just an hour north west of Canberra, the famous Motel Royal Tara has hit the market.

The original owners have enjoyed decades of growing the business, hosting both travellers passing through the town and members of the local community, but are ready to retire and pass it on to the next generation.

The motel has 20 rooms, which are all air conditioned and have been well maintained and updated as required, meaning there’s no work to do except move in and keep the business going.

Selling agent Jeremy Maher says the new owners will get to reap the rewards of a long established business that has produced a high and regular turnover for many years without any form of marketing. If you’ve got a bit of marketing know-how, you could be expanding that even more.

And the motel is not only a popular spot to stay for travellers passing through, but also a regular haunt for locals who frequent its restaurant. The Motel Royal Tara Restaurant seats up to 50, and the venue’s chef, local legend Tom Duffy, is well-known around town for his excellent steaks.

And if you’re new to running a motel - no worries. To help out the new buyers, the current owners will stay as required for one or two months to ensure a smooth handover and that the new owners are completely up to speed before taking the reins.
