It's not very often that a former Church that dates back to the 1870s come on the market.
Before converted into the home of former Yass resident, Roy Alexander, the church at No.110A Rossi Street was a Methodist and Baptist church.
Mr Alexander spent three years renovating the former derelict church to what is today: a three-level, four-bedroom home split across three levels.
From the outside, the façade has plenty of street appeal and retains its historic charm through the original steeple, stained glass window, arched windows, and portico entry.
“The beautiful stain glass window was originally in pieces when the owner bought the property,” said selling agent Naish Stormon of LJ Hooker Gungahlin
Inside, the expansive ground floor features the main living area, kitchen, study, sunroom, bathroom and bedroom. The first floor has two bedrooms, a bathroom and balcony, and the top floor includes the fourth bedroom and additional balcony.
The most striking aspect of the home is the high timber-lined cathedral ceiling.
“When you’re in the main living room it’s amazing because you look up and it feels like you are in a pirate shop because there are balconies on each level,” said Mr Stormon.
The home has a few quirky features, including a spa, prie-dieu and “the longest piece of timber the owner could get” as the fascia board.
The skylights were cleverly implemented by Mr Alexander to permeate natural light across the levels.
According to Mr Stormon, the large kitchen used to be the original school room. Now, is has an electric and wood stove, and with close access to the sunroom and laundry.
There are three bathrooms in total and a large double garage.
With the owner now living in Canberra, the home is on the market with a price guide of $850,000-$930,000.
Mr Stormon said the property would perfectly suit a Canberra couple who are looking for a country weekender because it is an easy walk to Yass’ main town, where there is always something to see and do.
