We engaged Natalie Roberts, Director of The Real Estate Shop Canberra, to sell our mother’s/mother-in-law’s property in Florey in late April 2022 and could not have chosen a better agent. Natalie provided us with options for preparatory house cleaning, staging and building inspections, and once we had made our choices, she finalised the arrangements and coordinated completion of the associated tasks. Made life very easy for us.

She provided forthright advice in relation to presenting the property and was spot on in her assessment of issues that we confronted and advice to us during the relatively short period that the property was on the market. At all times, she held our position as sellers as her absolute priority. She was highly motivated to achieve the best price, and she achieved just that.

It can be difficult to select a real estate agent as there are many apparent similarities in approach and claims made as to experience and success. Two significant considerations differentiated Natalie from other agents in making our choice. Firstly, we asked her to explain how she negotiates to achieve the best price. Natalie explained in detail how she applied her knowledge and skills – we felt that there was substance behind her explanation (and we saw the proof of that in the sales outcome). Secondly, she explained how using individual appointments with interested parties provided the opportunity for better outcomes for all parties compared to open houses – time for her to understand their needs and time for them to inspect the property and ask questions without bumping into a herd of strangers. We totally supported this approach as we are not fans of open houses.

Importantly, there was no consideration of selling via auction which was consistent with our mindset and the seller-friendly Jenman system of real estate sales, of which Natalie is a strong proponent.

Natalie was extremely helpful through the entire process, keeping me informed with a report after each inspection, organising tradesmen, suggesting extra details to improve the sale price.
